Coughing up clear phlegm?

I've been sick with the flu and now that my fever and nausea have ped, I'm left with a sore throat...and am coughing up clear phlegm. How can I get rid of the phlegm? Is there a special medicine? Mom tells me that Mucinex doesnt work well for clear phlegm so I decided against that. Thanks.
