Can anyone help me understand this poem? ?

i think each person reads things differently so whatever you originally understood from this is a story of a boy who lives with his parents and though they are farm smart they don't know much about book education. they want to help their son with his homework so he can have a higher opportunity of living a better life than he and he is almost ashamed that they can't but to his surprise his father figures it out..they throw in some memories to show the reader a little of their lifestyle..i hope this helps ;)
