What does unconditional love mean?

I agree with you. Love is highly conditional. It requires trust, honesty, emotional availability, communication, shared values, and so forth. The only time unconditional love could exist is toward an infant - who of course can contribute nothing but self-centered behavior. And that's fine, and appropriate. But among adults? It's a "feely good" myth.
