What role does science play in the novel Frankenstein?

The person above me makes a brilliant point. I'd just like to add that I think it's a commentary on how science can lead to consequences unforeseen and undesired by the scientist. Sort of like the current fear of Artificial Intelligence robots eventually turning on humans.
